A Sealed Gel Cell Battery contains a gelified and immobile electrolyte resulting from a mix of sulphuric acid and silica fume. Unlike other batteries, it does not have to be kept in an upright position. One of its main advantages is that they virtually eliminate any electrolyte evaporation or spillage (which can cause corrosion), common issues with other types of batteries. Because of their gel consistency, they boast greater resistance to extreme weather, vibrations and shocks. However, they recharge at a much slower rate. Even though they are called "Sealed", they have a valve regulation system to allow the gas to be pushed out. Overall, the Sealed Gel Cell Battery is a good choice for any Grid Tie Solar System.
